Larry McCauley and Gene Tucker each bought one heating oil company in 1970 and 1972, respectively. The following year, the duo decided that instead of competing with each other over heating oil prices, they would merge their businesses and help each other grow instead, and so Tucker Oil was born. Within a few years, they had grown the business to become a full-service company and continued working together for several more decades.
